Le Mans 2008

I know this is a little off subject, but since I have 10w40 in veins. And I believe in competing with the best in the world. It is only natural that Le Mans be mention in my pages.

LeMans 2008 are in the books. Audi and Peugeot battled for the top spot this year, an Audi ended up in the victor. In GT 1 Aston Martin came in front of Chevrolet in their Corvettes. This is the second year in a row. The Corvette team has vowed to return to their top spot next year.

Ferrari had a clean sweep in GT2.

Cavalcade of Customs '08

This weekend Cavalcade of Customs came to Cincinnati. It is the first time I've been in alot of years. I use to go every year, but it started to become the same cars year after year. This year was different in many ways. Since my last time, the convention center has changed physically. And with time there were different vehicles, and it was the first chance to take Cathy who just loves cars(only kidding). But we had a great time, and enjoyed ourselves very much. We had a chance to talk to a couple guys who were owners of some Malibu's, and they shared with Cathy about the value of some of these classics, she was just blown away. We walked the entire convention center and when we were finished tired and ready to go home. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it an 8.

Out came the Saws All

Tuesday night was a nasty night! Windy, rainy... But it wasnt to bad for us(me and Anthony). We were snug as bug in a rug. We had the space heater lit and work commenced. I started by shop vacing everything. There is nothing like getting little rust particles in the eyes. Then the next thing was to figure out what to do next. So out came the saws all. it was decided to remove the headers, and the easiest way to do that was cut the pipes. With a newly installed blade,in no time, they were gone. Looking at the headers, I'll be able reuse them.
After a little discussion, we agreed the next thing to do is the ball joints. The ball joints was one of the reason Thumprr was parked in the first place. So we proceeded to attemp to remove the front tires. Out came the inpact wrench... LOL, the lugs would not even budge... tried a different tire, Same thing. With the many years of none activity, the lugs have decided that is the way they like it. Massive amounts of penetrating oil was added. We let it sit for little while, and tried again. No luck : (
So it was time to call it the night. More penetrating oil, and I headed to the house.

Progress

This past Saturday the 5th, my son in law and I move Thump to his new "temporary" residence, My son in law's one car garage. The future plans are to do a full frame off restoration. We have already pulled the original stock 350cid. The interior has been removed too. Now it is time to decided what to do next. Yesterday, I posted a suggestion on my club's(Tri~State Chevelle) forum. And they all have suggested trunk pans, quarter panels.
Tonight in the garage, I think we shop vac, and see what we really have.

Thump

Thumprr has been a member of the Combs family since September of '86. He was given as a birthday present. He has went thru different transitions. From daily driver to second vechile in '95. As a second vehicle it has been neglected for different reasons(money&location to do it right) at different times. For the last year he has been snug as a bug in my downstairs garage. Put unfortanately, prior to that,he was stored outside under a car cover be exposed to the elements. As a result he is in need of a frame off restoration to return Thump to his musclecar glory.
Thump came to me as a plain jane Chevelle Malibu sports coupe. White w/black vinyl top. 350cid,350TH. Black interior, bench seat. Nothing spectator. Just a good starting point. You can add all the other goodies with time and money.
